The Nottinghamshire Golf & Country Club boasts a thriving Seniors Section with a significant number of over 55’s as members. The Seniors Committee seeks to represent all such members and would welcome participation, involvement and enjoyment by as many as possible in the various events that have been scheduled specifically for you.

Morning tee times are reserved for the Seniors Section on a Monday (8:00am),Wednesday (8:30am) and Friday (8:30am). Just turn up and play. Arrive 15 minutes before the start time to get in the draw. These provide ideal opportunities to meet new people as they are primarily social golf events which have a friendly, competitive element. In order to provide variety, twice a month during these sessions we arrange roll-up competitions, all with different rules and formats.
For those who wish to take the competition a little further, there is a medal competition off the white tees in each month from April to October and a stableford competition off the yellow tees in each month from November to March. These competitions contribute to an “Order of Merit” award at the end. In order to make these as accessible as possible, they can be played at any time during the day, not just at the allocated seniors’ start times.
There are 6 major trophy competitions with 3 off Yellow tees and 3 off White tees. These enjoy a shotgun start, so we all finish together, which allows time for the results to be declared and prizes presented.
A medal competition, introduced recently has proved very successful, with about 70 participants.
Another new competition introduced recently. This is a competition for teams of 4 (best 3 scores count for each hole) and has also proved very popular.
The season opener is a Spring away day played for a trophy (at Blankney this year), and the season is closed with an Autumn away day (at Horsley Lodge this year).
There are knockout competitions for singles during the Summer and pairs during the Winter.
The medals, stablefords, majors, and the Seniors Club Championship are all qualifiers, weather permitting, giving plenty of opportunities for every senior to gain and maintain an official handicap.
During the year The Nottinghamshire plays interclub will play 23 matches against Seniors sections from other golf clubs. Team selection is as inclusive as possible to ensure that we have the widest pool of available golfers for these matches. The matches are generally for 16 players playing 4 ball better ball. The day comprises a welcome drink, the cut and thrust of match play golf followed by a sociable drink and a meal. This provides a great opportunity to experience other courses in the area.
Teams of 4 (2 ladies + 2 seniors) have fun dressing up in scary outfits, playing golf and dining afterwards.
To round off the year Christmas is marked with a greensome pairs competition and a 3-course seasonal dinner. This includes a presentation of monies raised for the Seniors’ charity of the year.
At every event above, we collect for our charity of the year. Last year we were able to donate around £1,200 to MacMillan Cancer Support. This year, our charity is Prostate Cancer.
We have recently started producing Newsletters which keep the seniors informed about all aspects of the Seniors section.
If you are interested in any of the above or require any further information then please send an email to [email protected] and one of the committee will make contact with you. With your permission we can add your email address to our mailing list so you can receive regular updates on all the Seniors events.
Alternatively we have a specific Seniors Notice board in the clubhouse which also provides information and updates of all of the planned events plus results. There is also a box to leave your contact details.
